- Hey yo, Ben Green here with benmgreen.com, I'm here to optimize your career, your location and your finances. And today I want to talk a little bit about maybe the biggest or most important criteria you need to think about when you're looking at relocating to another city, or even to another state or another country for that matter. But before I do that, I should probably tell you who I am. So my name is Ben Green. I was born and raised in South Carolina. Went to college in Atlanta, Georgia. And then spent eight years in Japan, spent a year in Spain, spent a year in Brazil. And so when it comes to cities and relocating, I've done it in five countries, five times basically. And I've lived in a dozen or so cities within the U.S., so I do have a lot of experience with that. I also worked for a department of commerce recruiting companies to come to a state in the south. And companies do this stuff all the time. They do this kind of analysis all the time. And so all we're doing here is just bringing this sort of analysis to you as an individual, so you can make the same informed decisions that a lot of companies do all the time. So as far as like relocation analysis, probably the most important thing is the job market that you're entering when you're looking to move to a city, but also even if you're looking at different colleges. Because if you do it well, you'll pick a city that has a great university, a great college, or a great trade school for that matter. And then when you come out of that school, you can just go to work, maybe you're right in that city that you spent two to four or maybe eight years in already. So looking at the job market can make a big difference for you. For some folks, you of course want to look at the amount of fun you can have. Are you going to enjoy the city? Are you going to thrive in that city if you're there? Or even in that rural area, or even in that suburb for example. Are you going to thrive there? So that's something you obviously need to be thinking about. Things like crime, obviously, are important. A lot of folks they'll look at housing and housing affordability, to make sure they can actually afford to buy a home there, or maybe to invest and buy a rental property. They want to make sure that they're not going to have to spend $5,000 per month for the apartment that they have in that city. So that's really important for them as well. And then things like companies always think about taxes. Like what's their tax burden going to be. And you should think about that too. Because depending on the state you live in, you may or may not have to pay state income tax. You may have to pay higher or lower residential property taxes. There may be auto taxes, sales taxes you haven't thought about. So these are all things that you need to take a look at when you're looking at relocating to that city, to that country, to that new state. So, with that, if you do have any more questions, you can of course go to our website benmgreen.com, where we have the city selection guide for you to take a closer deep dive into. And if you require further assistance, you can just book a session with me, and we can talk about all the aspects of the city or cities you might be wanting to check out. But this stuff, it's a big deal is, it can be really boring, but it's a big deal, this can literally mean hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars over your lifetime, depending on where you picked and whether you're going to thrive in that city.
